Ever wonder why some brake pads just won’t stop screaming? Usually, it comes down to how they were dried. If the outside of the pad hardens too quickly, it basically seals the material shut. This traps solvents and moisture inside, creating a bunch of internal stress and weird spots where the density is all over the place. It’s a recipe for noise. We found a better way: stop heating the surface and start heating the core. That’s where short-wave infrared (IR) comes in. Getting the heat where it actually matters Most shops use standard convection ovens. They heat the air, and the air heats the surface. For dense friction materials, that’s just too slow. It’s like trying to thaw a frozen steak by leaving it on the counter—the outside gets warm while the middle stays an ice cube. Our IR lamps work differently. They send out radiation that the resin binders actually “soak up.” Instead of waiting for the heat to slowly crawl inward, the energy hits the center of the material almost instantly. Everything cures at the same time, from the inside out. No trapped gases. No hollow spots. Just a solid, uniform piece of material. The tricky part (and how we handle it) Now, you can’t just crank the power to 11. If you put too much wattage into a small space, you’ll scorch the surface before the core even gets warm. It’s a balancing act. We spend a lot of time tweaking the wattage and the distance to keep the temperature flat across the board. Plus, if you push the voltage too hard just to speed up the line, you’re going to burn out your filaments. It’s a short-term win for a long-term headache. Bringing it to the shop floor The best part?
