If the surface hardens too quickly, it creates a kind of “skin.” This traps moisture and gases inside the pad, creating internal stress and weird density spots. When the driver hits the pedal, all that tension turns into that annoying high-pitched squeal. To fix this, we use shortwave infrared (IR) emitters. Here’s the trick: standard ovens just heat the air around the part. IR is different. It shoots energy straight into the material, vibrating the molecules all the way through the pad. It means the core cures at the same speed as the surface. No skin, no traps. But you can’t just blast it with heat. You need a specific amount of power per millimeter to get that deep penetration. If you crank it too high, you’ll burn the resins. Too low, and your production line slows to a crawl. We spend our time tuning the wattage to match your specific line speed so you get the best of both worlds. Setting these systems up is pretty simple, but there is one thing to watch out for. Because the heat density is so aggressive, your cooling zones have to be on point. If the pads don’t cool down fast enough after the IR stage, they can warp. It’s a delicate balance, but it’s worth it. When the material binds uniformly, the voids disappear. The hardness stays consistent. And most importantly?
