
Getting High-Speed Printing Right with Gallium Iodide
We spent some time at the 2026 Printing Expo showing off our custom UV lamp modules. Most people are used to standard mercury lamps, but we’ve been leaning hard into gallium iodide. Why? Because modern photoinitiators just react better to it.
The science, simplified
Here’s the thing about gallium iodide: it changes where the light hits. Instead of a broad, scattered spray of UV, these lamps create a tight, intense peak. It’s the difference between a floodlight and a spotlight. This extra punch lets the energy dive deep into thick ink layers. You aren’t just “skinning” the top—you’re getting a rock-solid cure all the way through to the bottom.
No “off-the-shelf” nonsense
We don’t do one-size-fits-all. That never works in a real shop. Instead, we build these modules around your specific line speed and whatever material you’re running. We tweak the wattage and tube length to get the power density just right. If your press is screaming along at top speed, we crank the power so the ink sets instantly before the substrate even hits the next station. We also use high-purity quartz glass. It stops that annoying “solarization” that usually makes your output tank over time.
The real-world trade-offs
We made these as drop-in replacements. We handle the wiring and the cooling housing, so you don’t have to rip apart your chassis or play engineer for a week. But let’s be honest: gallium iodide runshot. If you’re working with plastics that warp when they get warm, you can’t just wing it. You’ll need a chilled-water system or a heavy-duty blower to keep things cool. If you ignore the heat, you’re going to kill the lifespan of the lamp. We build these to survive the chaos of an industrial press. No flimsy mounts. No connectors that wiggle loose when the machine starts vibrating. Just raw power, exactly where you need it.
